Welcome to Fine Golf

The British Isles is blessed with a heritage of the finest golf courses in the world because our temperate climate allows the best grasses for golf to flourish on areas of well-drained, but poor, soil, such as linksland, heath, moor and downland areas, often unwanted for agriculture.

There are over 2,800 golf courses in the UK and Ireland but only some 200 can be defined as ‘fine’.  This independent website helps you discover the delights of these courses that offer the “joy to be alive” FineGolf feeling.

We welcome you to our passionate campaign to promote the classic values of the fine running game.

About us

FineGolfing,

Our contention is that Frank Pennink’s list (published in 1962) updated by this independent FineGolf website is the most reliable guide to the Finest golf courses in the British Isles and Ireland.

It took him 40 years but Lorne Smith has played them all.

Through this he has also become a champion of Jim Arthur and his natural approach to greenkeeping.
