Welcome to Fine Golf

The British Isles is lucky to have a heritage of the finest golf courses in the world because our temperate climate allows the best grasses for golf, to flourish on areas of well-drained poor soil, like links, heath, moor and downland areas, not wanted for agriculture.

There are over 2,800 golf courses in the UK and Ireland and only some 200 can be defined as ‘fine’.  This independent website helps you discover these delights that give the “joy to be alive” FineGolf feeling.

We welcome you to our passionate campaign to promote the classic values of the fine running game.

About us

Our contention is that Frank Pennink’s list (published in 1962) updated by this independent FineGolf website is the most reliable guide to the Finest golf courses in the British Isles and Ireland.

It took him 40 years but Lorne Smith, has played them all.

Through this he has also become a champion of Jim Arthur and his natural approach to greenkeeping.
