Samuel Ryder after whom The Ryder Cup is named was one of golf’s finest philanthropists.

Yes, we all know it is a pity that the modern Ryder Cup has been played on ‘target-style’ courses since its apperance at the Belfry in 1985 (though interestingly it also coincided with a much improved performance by what had become the ‘European’ side taking over from ‘GB and Ireland’ that last played at Royal Lytham and St Anne’s in 1977) but this should not detract from the work of The Samuel Ryder Foundation.
This charity with support from golfers such as Ben Crenshaw and Colin Montgomery is involved in raising awareness of Samuel Ryder’s broader achievements in business, horticulture, public service, philanthropy and sport to celebrate his character and his principles, while raising funds to support young people in various ways.
